Crown Mines armed robbery: An armed cash robbery took place at a shopping centre in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, on 13 August. Two armed suspects allegedly robbed a cash escort before five suspects fled in a hijacked red VW Polo. A shootout followed at the shopping centre exit. One suspect was killed, two were wounded and arrested, while two others escaped. A security guard was also shot and wounded. Police recovered the stolen cash, three pistols and an AK-47. All four firearms had their serial numbers filed off. The getaway vehicle had false plates and had previously been reported stolen. Police are investigating armed robbery, murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The investigation and manhunt for the remaining suspects continue.
